Wheelchairs sped forward, made sharp stops, turned, passed, and shot.

On August 27, the "DEWEN Agarwood Cup" 3-on-3 wheelchair basketball competition at the 10th Guangdong Provincial Games for Persons with Disabilities came to a close at the Dianbai District Sports Center. On the court, the screech of wheels against the floor, the rhythm of basketballs bouncing, and the roars from the stands all intertwined. After fierce competition, both the Guangzhou men's and women's wheelchair basketball teams claimed the top spot on the podium.

This was a thrilling moment from the "DEWEN Agarwood Cup" series of events.

From competitive basketball at the Provincial Games to 3x3 basketball, which became an official Provincial Games event for the first time, to wheelchair basketball at the Paralympic Games, DEWEN Qinan Agarwood (Guangdong) Industrial Investment Co., Ltd., as an event partner, sponsored the basketball series under the "DEWEN Agarwood Cup" banner. The "DEWEN Agarwood Cup" accompanied each breakthrough, confrontation, and shot, becoming a distinctive mark of Maoming on the field of the Provincial Games and Provincial Paralympic Games.

One Basketball, Connecting Multiple Arenas

In early August, the competitive basketball events of the 17th Guangdong Provincial Games "DEWEN Agarwood Cup" unfolded across multiple venues. Young athletes from across the province battled for honor, with steals, breakaways, and long-range shots heating up the fast-paced offense-defense transitions.

On August 15, the "DEWEN Agarwood Cup" competitive group 3x3 basketball women's Group A and men's Group B competitions began at the Xinyi Sports Park Basketball Hall. With a smaller court, faster tempo, and tighter transitions, every shot could shift the momentum of the game.

This marked the first time 3x3 basketball was included as an official event in the Guangdong Provincial Games. Young basketball players from across the province gathered in Xinyi to make friends through sport and chase their dreams on the court, jointly witnessing a new chapter in the history of Provincial Games basketball.

On the afternoon of August 20, the men's Group A final was held at the Dianbai District Sports Center, where Shenzhen and Zhanjiang faced off for the championship. Shenzhen ultimately defeated Zhanjiang 97–69 to claim the men's Group A title. With that, this edition's "DEWEN Agarwood Cup" basketball series came to a successful close.

After the Provincial Games basketball events concluded, the Paralympic wheelchair basketball competition followed.

On August 25, the "DEWEN Agarwood Cup" wheelchair basketball competition at the 10th Guangdong Provincial Games for Persons with Disabilities opened at the Dianbai District Sports Center. The event featured men's and women's divisions, covering both 3x3 and 5x5 formats, with a total of four gold medals up for grabs.

Wheelchairs became the athletes' athletic equipment on the court. Fast drives, sharp stops and turns, boxing out and shooting - every movement tested strength, skill, and teamwork, while also giving spectators a taste of the unique speed and intensity of wheelchair basketball.

The excitement of the "DEWEN Agarwood Cup" continues. From August 30 to September 5, the "DEWEN Agarwood Cup" Deaf Basketball (Men's Group) competition will be held at the Kangjing Sports Center in Huazhou, where athletes from across the province will continue to compete.

From competitive basketball to 3x3 basketball to wheelchair basketball, and the upcoming deaf basketball — one ball connects multiple arenas, bringing together the striving figures of different athletes into the shared story of the "DEWEN Agarwood Cup."

Every Shot Holds the Answer of Time

A brilliant shot on the court lasts only a moment, but behind it lies day after day of training.

Wheelchair basketball has long been a traditional strength of Guangzhou's disability sports. Over the years, team members have repeatedly refined their wheelchair control, passing, shooting, and other technical details, cultivating team chemistry through countless practice sessions.

After the 3x3 wheelchair basketball competition concluded, the Guangdong team did not pause their efforts. According to the team director, the squad will use a brief rest period to review their performance, adjust their competitive state, and optimize tactics for the 5x5 format as they continue to push toward new goals.

A medal records the result of one competition, but training points toward the next departure.

This process of building strength through repeated refinement and achieving breakthroughs through the accumulation of time resonates with the way agarwood gradually develops its fragrance over the years.

One unfolds on the training ground, the other grows deep in the mountain forests; both are inseparable from time, perseverance, and tempering. When basketball meets agarwood, the warmth of the court and the tranquility of the fragrance reflect each other, making the "DEWEN Agarwood Cup" more than just an event name — it becomes a cultural expression belonging to Maoming.

Maoming is renowned as the "Hometown of Chinese Agarwood." Public data shows that the city's agarwood cultivation area has exceeded 300,000 mu (approximately 20,000 hectares), with the full industrial chain generating 11.09 billion yuan (approx. $1.65 billion) in value and providing employment for over 150,000 people. Agarwood carries profound local cultural heritage while also serving as a distinctive industry that boosts incomes and supports rural revitalization.

For the industry to go further, it must not only strengthen its products but also build its brand and tell its story well. The "DEWEN Agarwood Cup" draws attention through basketball events, allowing Maoming agarwood to break out of its traditional circles through this provincial-level sports gala — a concrete practice of state-owned enterprises serving their hometown's grand event and connecting local industry with urban outreach.

The final buzzer will sound, but the stories left behind on and off the court continue.

One wisp of fragrance connects a thousand-year cultural lineage; one ball gathers the power of perseverance. The "DEWEN Agarwood Cup" bears witness to athletes pursuing their passions, and in the vibrant atmosphere of the Provincial Games and Paralympic Games, it allows Maoming agarwood to be seen and remembered by more people.
